Portraits
This assignment has two parts and you will take a total of 4 photographs. You will be looking for models, but you must take pictures of people that you don't usually take pictures of! Think outside your friend group!!
Part 1: Jekyll and Hyde (2 photographs) For part one you choosing two opposite personalities for you model and using the lights in the studio create those looks. Think about props, costumes, and even makeup. Save files as lastname_firstname_jekyll.jpg Artist Statement: 150 words Here are some questions to guide you: What the two personalities that you created for your model? What inspired your photographs? How did you achieve the look? What did you change with the lights, angles, props, costumes? How successful was your shoot? What would you change for next time? Part 2 - Find your subject's personality - (2 photographs) Choose a different subject for part 2. Ask them about their interests and personality. Are they funny? Sporty? Quiet? etc. Then find a location and to photograph them in a way that really shows their personality. You should be using natural light. Turn your favorite toy into a legend. This project has two purposes - the first is to tell a story with a series of photos. Your toy is on an epic adventure and you are there to capture it in a series of 5 photographs. The second thing that we are working on is learning about perspective. Changing your perspective can create interesting photographs. If you always take your photos from the same angle it gets repetitive and you end up missing beautiful shots. Concept is king! Take your time in the brainstorming and get a great concept.
1.Choose a location that you will be able to interact with in an interesting way. Set up your tripod and camera. Make sure the tripod is tightened! Set your Camera to aperture priority
2. Take photos of you all over the location. You can have someone take the photos for you OR you can set up the timer on the camera. Have someone watching the preview to be sure that the exposure is good (not too dark/ light) and that the photo isn’t blurry. You will take 20 shots minimum. Take your final shot without your in the location. Make sure not to move the camera at all between shots. You will choose 12-15 minimum to edit into your final picture.
3. Open your background photo in photosho. File > save as: last name_firstname_allaboutme.psd 4. Open several of your other pictures. Trace around the outside your body with the lasso tool. You do not need to be too close to your body. Click on REFINE EDGE and feather it a little. Then copy command+ C. Now to go your background file and EDIT > PASTE SPECIAL> PASTE IN PLACE. If you can see a harsh outline, then use the eraser tool with a low opacity to erase. |

The skills that you are going to need are: creating a new document, copying and pasting an image into your document, resizing images and finally recognizing what makes a great photograph. Each person will choose a partner to create a collage, make sure that you take turns "driving"
